THE ICENI of BRITAIN When Claudius invaded Britain, in 43, the Iceni offered no opposition, and voluntarily accepted Roman domination. Presumably as a reward, they were granted the status of a 'client kingdom'. Though subject to Rome, the government of a client kingdom was handed to a, pro-Roman, native ruler.
